Alice Maxine (Copeland) Addington

January 21, 1929 — December 9, 2023

Amarillo

Alice Maxine Addington passed away on December 9, 2023, at the age of 94, in Amarillo.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the Llano Pantheon Mausoleum Chapel.

She was born on January 21, 1929, in Wellington, Texas, to James Chester Copeland and Edice Opal Watson. Alice graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945 and married the love of her life, John Addington, on May 5, 1948. They were married for 51 years. They had two children and lived a full life together until John's death. They owned and managed the Longhorn Motel in Boise City, Oklahoma for many years as their children were growing up. She helped her husband in his home construction business for many years as well.

Alice was a devoted and loyal mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was her passion, pouring love and wisdom into them. She cared so deeply about all her family; she did this not out of obligation, but because that’s who she was. Alice was a faithful member of the Baptist church and loved counted-cross stitching and over the years made hundreds of different embroidery pictures. She was an avid reader, especially her daily devotional and Bible. She was selfless and gave everything without hesitation, even when she didn’t have much, especially for her grandchildren. She would tell each individual grandchild - “Have I told you lately that you’re my favorite?” She knew how special it made them feel. Her love was unmatched- unconditional, constant and her heart was pure gold. There was never a person in the room that didn’t feel her love, it was her goal to make everyone she encountered know just how loved and important that they are. She was everyone’s “Nana.”

Alice was preceded in death by her parents James & Edice Copeland, husband John Addington, brother Elvin Copeland, and granddaughter Holli Higgins.

She is survived by her daughter, Denita Warren; son, John Byron Addington; sister, Carlene, and husband, Gene Sparkman; grandchildren, Shaun, Matthew, Andrew, and Olivia; two great-grandchildren, Craig and Jackson; and many loving nieces and nephews. Alice was the glue of the family, and her memory will be cherished forever.

The family would like to thank the Park Central Community - The Ware where Alice lived for 10 years for their dedication to giving her a peaceful and happy home.
