Benjamin R. Diaz, 78, of Amarillo, died on Friday, April 14, 2023.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, 1200 S. Washington, Amarillo, Texas, on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Celebrant will be Rev. Anthony Neusch. Inurnment will be at Llano Cemetery, 2900 South Hayes St.
Benjamin was born in Coleman, Texas, on December 16, 1944, to Bonifacio Diaz and Beatrice Cilos Rodriguez. He worked at Texaco Refinery before retiring from Texas Tech School of Medicine in 2005.
Benjamin married his beloved Juanita on August 16, 1966.
Together they raised three daughters and enjoyed the love of seven grandchildren. Golfing with his grandsons was one of his greatest joys, and doting on his granddaughters was one of his favorite things to do. It was apparent he had a passion for God and showed it through the love of his family and was a very attentive father, grandfather, and friend.
Benjamin Diaz was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Diaz; Brothers Willie Diaz, George Moreno, and Alex Moreno; and his parents.
He is survived by his three daughters: Virginia Diaz of Amarillo, Monica Lara and her husband, Patrick of Dallas, and Veronica Berryman and her husband, Tony of Amarillo. Also surviving are his siblings; Rudy Diaz, Odelia Celaya, Oralia Rodriguez, Beatrice Rodriguez, Joe Deleon, Sally Gomez and Terry Deleon. His beloved grandchildren also survive him; Benjamin S. Diaz, Isaiah Mata, Brooklyn, Savannah, Spencer, and Samuel Berryman, and Olivia Lara.
The family would like to thank BSA Harrington Cancer Center and Hospice of the Southwest for the care they gave to their father and grandfather.
