Amarillo

Brenda King, 71, of Amarillo, passed away on February 7, 2026.

The family will receive guests Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 6:30 until 7:30 at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 South Arthur. The funeral will be on Friday, February 13, 2026, at North Amarillo Church of Christ at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home.

Brenda was born May 7, 1954, in Amarillo to Raymond and Odessa Preston Rehwalt. She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1972.

As a young woman, Brenda met the handsome Earl “Sonny” King while cruising Polk Street one weekend. Several weeks later Sonny gave her a call, and as the family says, the rest is history. The couple was married just six months later at the home of Sonny’s parents, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, friendship, and devotion to family.

Family meant everything to Brenda. She loved being a wife and mother and worked hard to keep family connections strong. She organized several family reunions over the years, making sure loved ones gathered often and stayed close. Some of Brenda and Sonny’s favorite memories were made playing co-ed softball and volleyball together. To everyone’s surprise, including their own—they grew to love volleyball so much that they even took lessons to sharpen their skills.

Brenda was also wonderfully creative. She loved to sew, draw, paint, and create, and over the years she made many beautiful quilts, generously sharing her creations with family and friends. Her handmade gifts will remain treasured reminders of her love.

A longtime member of North Amarillo Church of Christ, Brenda faithfully volunteered wherever help was needed. If something needed to be done, Brenda was willing to do it, serving quietly and faithfully with a generous heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Richard.

Brenda is survived by her husband of fifty three years, Earl “Sonny” King; two daughters, Divinity Dawn Whelchel and husband David of Idaho and Vinilla King of Amarillo; two sisters, Resa McKenzie and husband Scott of Amarillo and DeeDee McCoy and husband Randy of Abilene; six grandchildren, Chandra Orr and husband Chris, Kristen Whelchel, Whisper Minton, Brandon Whelchel, Jordan Whelchel and Lillyanna King; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Riley Orr.
