Carmela Celine Huereca, 61, of Amarillo, passed suddenly on March 26, 2026.
The family will host a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10 am at the Hillside Christian Church North Grand Campus, 3508 NE 24th Ave, with Pastor Juan Maldonado presiding. Following the service, there will be a viewing at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur, from 12 pm to 5 pm.
Carmela Celine Huereca, 61, was born in Portales, New Mexico on November 10, 1964, to George Huereca and Rita Zapata.
Over the course of 61 years Carmela took great pride and joy in caring for her children and the late love of her life “Flaco” Jose (Joe) Garcia. Anyone that knew Carmela knew she was a big collector of mushrooms and porcelain masks. She could never have enough. Carmela loved her fur babies, Diamond, Juliet, Kit Kat and Daisy, and Piglet. Carmela loved music, everything from BTS, Marco Antonio Solis to Country Music. She was always down for a cookout and ready for a good time with those around her. Though Carmela might have appeared tough on the outside, those who knew her best understood she possessed such a caring heart. Her doors were always open for those who needed a place to stay. She had so much love for her family, particularly her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Getting to spend time with them was her favorite way to pass time.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children; LeeAnn and her spouse Robert Guerra, Jessie and his partner April Reed, David, Joann and her spouse Mark Castillo, and her bonus children Jesse, Isiais and Teresa; her five sisters, Virginia Sanchez, Margie Rodriquez, Gloria Murray, Mary Hill, and Anita Avila; her two brothers, Ramiro Jr. Zapata, and Jose Zapata, her best friend and father of her children; Jesse Quiroz, her 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and of course many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, “Flaco” Jose (Joe) Garcia, four beloved great-grandchildren, her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
