Clayton Shennum, 39, passed away on August 14, 2023. He will be greatly missed.
Clayton was a life-long resident of Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from Tascosa High School and Texas Tech University where he majored in History. He worked in the field of agricultural irrigation for many years.
As a youth Clayton’s favorite sport was playing roller hockey, and he loved camping and fishing as well. As a little tyke he hung out with his older brother and his friends skateboarding and skating on the ramps they built in their yard. Clayton played on many league and tournament hockey teams, including the roller hockey team at Texas Tech.
He always had a loving spirit. He had a particular fondness for birds and the great outdoors. Among his favorite memories were hiking and mountain climbing with his brother and father.
Clayton married his loving wife Tonya West in 2019. Together they shared a genuine love of humor, companionship, travel, and fishing. It seemed they were always on the go together, frequently to Southern Colorado.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Tonya, parents Steve and Lee Shennum of Amarillo, his brother Cyrus and his wife Rhianna of Austin and their children Helena and Estelle, sister Aspen of Amarillo and her children Alyssa, Eli, Ellie, Jada, and Morgan, aunt Mary Shennum, uncle Dirk Mathis, his stepdaughter Crystal Tinajero and her children Rainee, Faeryn and Koda, and stepson Steven Miles and his daughter, Tyger.
There will be private memorial services for Clayton at Llano Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Clayton could be made to organizations he supported including The Nature Conservancy, Trout Unlimited, the National Parks Conservation Association, or a charity of your choice.
