Donald Gene West

Donald Gene West, age 62, of Amarillo, died April 20, 2023, at peace while surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 South Arthur.  The Rev. Greg Corona will officiate.

Don was born in Amarillo on April 26, 1960, to his parents, David James, and Lois Odean West.    He had a weakness for sweets, especially cookies, brownies, and Dr. Pepper.  Don loved the simple things in life, like fishing and sitting on his front porch with his good friend Sammy and Roxanne, his pup.  Even though he was a bit rough around the edges, he had a huge heart and was very generous.  Don would do anything for his friends and family.  That included fighting for them because no one messed with his kids.  He cherished time with his family and loved them dearly.

His parents preceded him in death, along with his sister, Sherry Cogsdil; a brother David Dean West; and a half-brother, Joe Garner.

Don is survived by his two daughters, Michelle West of Amarillo; Christy Renecker and her husband Lonnie of Kermit; his son Michael West of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Melissa Durling, husband Jason of Amarillo; a brother Eddie West; his four precious grandchildren, Josh, Tyler, Addison, and Liberty Michelle; two great-grandchildren; by nieces Betsy, Lisa, April Lois, and Mary; by his nephews, Nathan, James, David, Joe, and Clayton; by his great nieces, Brooke and Brittany; great-nephews, Brayden, Brandon, and Brycen; and by his pup Roxanne.
