Elva (Flores) Smith

April 25, 1947 — March 4, 2024

Amarillo

Elva Flores Smith, age 76, entered Heaven on March 4, 2024, In Amarillo.

A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.  The Rev. Dale Moreland will officiate.

Elva was born on April 25, 1947, in La Feria, Texas, to her parents, Jesus Vargas and Celia Garza Flores. She attended high school in Friona. Elva was one of nine children and was known for being mischievous and playful with her siblings. Despite her antics, she cherished the time they spent together, even in later years. Elva and her siblings kept in contact almost daily.

Elva worked as a teacher’s aide at Sanborn and later as a caregiver for TMHMR, where she showed an unending supply of patience and love for those who needed it most. She loved to shop and would often visit antique shops and thrift stores. She was very meticulous and took great pride in her appearance. Elva also enjoyed spending time outside, particularly at the lake. She had a heart for animals and cared for God’s creatures.

To Elva, family was everything. She adored her two children, Sandra and Miguel, and was always generous and willing to do anything for those she loved. Her heart was overjoyed when her grandchildren started arriving, and she loved being a grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings, Jessie Flores Jr., Gloria Flores, Terri Flores, Tony Flores, and Noamy Flores.

Elva is survived by her daughter, Sandra Simpkins, and her husband, Nathan Hiett of Waco; her son, Miguel Quintanilla of Amarillo; her sister, Irma Flores of Amarillo; her brothers, David and Albert Flores, both of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Tiffany Walters of Eagle River, Alaska, Brittney Simpkins of Waco, Texas, Jacob Simpkins of Temple, Texas, Nicole Marie Henderson and Morgan Anthony Quintanilla; and her great-grandchild, Harper Resendez.
