Ernie
Porter
Apr 26, 1945 — Jun 23, 2026
Ernie Porter was born April 26, 1945, in Clovis, New Mexico, to R.C. and Mildred Tucker Porter.
Ernie began his working years ranching, later moved into trucking, and eventually found his true passion as a marine mechanic. He retired in 2000 after more than 15 years in the industry.
Ernie was a hardworking man who took pride in doing things well and providing for those he loved. He and Judy shared more than 34 years together, building a wonderful life and creating many treasured memories. To Judy, Ernie was a source of steadfast security and protection. He was deeply devoted to his family and was always present for them in the ways that mattered most. Ernie adored his grandchildren and took great pride in teaching them a few rather ornery things to do, simply because he could. He could be a ring-tailed tooter himself, and those who knew him understood that the more he picked on you, the more you knew he loved you. His teasing, humor, and mischievous spirit were part of what made him so memorable and loved.
In addition to spending time with his family, one of Ernie’s favorite hobbies was raising cactus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Doyle; and his sister, Chris Marin.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy; his children, Candace Morath and husband Richard of Wichita Falls, Justin Porter of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jenson Porter and wife Andrea of College Station; his stepchildren, Michele Earle and husband Robert of Nara Visa, New Mexico, and Justin Powell and wife Yogi of Tucumcari; four grandchildren, Anthony, James, Mesha, and Taylor; and two great-grandchildren, Howdy and Dallie.
