Florene Sikes Brown Coldeway

Florene Sikes Brown Coldeway joined her heavenly family on December 29, 2018.  Florene was born on May 26, 1931 to G.W. and Floy Stroman Sikes.  She was predeceased by her mother, father, a sister Marjorie McBride, 3 brothers, Weldon, Scott and Larry Sikes, a grandson Dustin Dollar and a step-great-grandson Devon Searsy.

Florene lived most of her life in the Plainview area and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years.

She married Lonnie “Ed” Brown on September 1, 1946 and was married until his death on June 6, 1983.

She moved to the Marble Falls area and married William “Bill” Coldeway on March 26, 1986 and was married until his death on March 2, 1991.

For many years, Florene played a bass fiddle and sang in the country band “Little Eddie Brown and the Country Drifters, which consisted of Ed, Florene, Mearl and Earl Young. They played for many local dances, played on the radio station in Tulia TX and on a television, program called “Picking Time” in Lubbock TX.

Florene worked for Volume Shoe Corporation in Plainview and Lubbock for many years, beginning as an Assistant Manager and ending her career as a District Training Supervisor and Store Manager.

She is survived by two brothers, Russ Sikes and wife Shirley of Creve Coeur IL,  Frank Sikes and wife Nancy of Lubbock TX, 2 additional sister-in-laws, Zelma Perry of Plainview TX, Jeanne Sikes of Ben Lomond CA, 3 sons, Lonnie Brown and wife B.J. of Highland Haven TX, Ronnie Brown and wife Renee of Lubbock TX, Donnie Brown of Highland Haven TX and a daughter, Elaine Brown Dollar and husband Pete McGuire of Amarillo TX, 4 grandchildren, Shane Dollar and wife Brandy of Del Norte CO, Kristie Brown of Chattanooga TN, Jennifer Blair and husband Kael of Marble Falls TX, Ian Brown and wife Hyacinth of Marble Falls TX, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, 3 step daughters, Dian Sustek, Paula Herndon, Mary Kay Coldeway, 9 step grandchildren,16 step great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 1700 I-27 Frontage in Plainview TX on Saturday, January 12th, 2018 at 11:00 am with Chaplain Stuart Smith of Amarillo officiating and longtime friend Wallace Shackelford providing the music.

The family will have a private burial at Plainview Cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to the employees of Conner Place and the employees of Encompass Healthcare and Hospice, for the kindness and love they provided to our Mother, she loved all of you.
