Jackie Bruns, 60, loving wife, mother, “Momo”, and bonus mother to so many left this world on Saturday, November 12, 2022 in Amarillo surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 3pm at Church Alive, 1819 Canadian St. in Amarillo with Pastor Mark Rector presiding. To honor Jackie’s memory, the family request casual dress and lots of color.
Jackie was born Jacqueline Jean Brown on January 24, 1962 in Rochester, New York to Frank and Bertha (Dutcher) Brown. She married her beloved husband Paul Bruns on July 17, 1999 solidifying the Bruns family they had already established so many years before. Together they were members of Church Alive and were incredibly devoted to God, Family, and The Church. Her love for HER New York Giants, which neither of her children understood, was the only thing that came close.
Jackie was a fighter. No matter her illness, her personal problems, or the situation, she met them all with the resilience no one could really understand. Even as she battled cancer, she would never let you know she was in pain; instead answering each question with, “Mama’s alright, baby” with a smile on her face.
Jackie adored her family. She never turned anyone away and even inherited some “bonus” kids throughout her life in the way of her kids friends. If you stepped in her home, you were family. No matter the situation you were faced with, Mama had a bed to sleep in, food in the fridge for you, and a hug that made you know everything was going to be alright. Aside from keeping all of Dani and Dustin’s friends in line, Jackie made sure her own family walked the straight and narrow path. If you got out of line, she would reel you back in and make sure you knew she loved you when she did. Blood or not, her love for people was unparalleled. Jackie especially loved when the grandkids would visit and stay the night. She cherished every moment with them and took picture after picture to capture that one moment in time.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Bertha Keith, her biological father Frank, brothers Pete and Herb Brown, and grandson Bronx Rion Bruns. Those left to cherish her memories are her loving husband Paul, daughter Danyelle Brown-Hawley, son Dustin Bruns, seven grandchildren, three grand daughter in laws, and five great grandchildren; sister Carol Sandoval, and brothers William and Charles Brown. Jackie also leaves behind her bonus family Georgia and Jackie Skaggs, Trish and Teddy Chance, and many other loving family members and dear friends. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt debt of gratitude to Rebecca Moro, Jackie’s caregiver, who became family for her loving, dedicated care to our matriarch during her last months. Your kindness and compassion are deeply appreciated, and you are forever part of this family.
