Dale Lewis, 78, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on April 19, 2026.
The family invites you to celebrate Dale's life on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 6:30 pm at Amarillo Church of Christ, 9999 S. Western St.
Dale was born on October 27, 1947, in Sherman, Texas to Ralph and Nelda Katherine (Hayes) Lewis. He grew up and attended school around the Gunter, Texas area before moving to the Texas panhandle graduating from Dumas High School, class of 1966. Dale went on to get his bachelor's degree from North Texas State University, majoring in physics. He married Mary Helen in 1971 and the two built their family.
Dale and Helen started life together where they would paint houses for a short time, until Dale would get hired to deliver for the postal service, and together they did what needed to be done to make life work.
Dale eventually would go on to work for Plains Communications, a Motorola two-way radio sales and repair shop. He later purchased the radio shop owning and operating it for upwards of 20 plus years that supported the family.
Dale was also deeply rooted in his faith. Church was non-negotiable in their home. He was a dedicated presence in Amarillo Church of Christ where he and Mary Helen were members. They didn’t miss a service without really good reason, and there were not many of those.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Mary Helen, and brother, Nelson Lewis. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Rachel Green and husband Daniel, and Jamie Lewis, sons, Jada Lewis, Jody Lewis and wife Jennifer, William “Will” Lewis and wife Dawn, and Max Lewis and wife Tina; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as sister, Kathy Linnvile, and brothers, Tommy Lewis and wife Cindy, and Eddie Lewis and wife Rebecca, and many extended family members and cherished friends.
