John Aguirre, of Amarillo, passed away on September 21, 2026, in Amarillo, surrounded by his loving family.

A rosary will be on Wednesday, October 7th at 6:00 Pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 S. Washington.  The memorial mass will be Thursday, October 8, 2026 at St. Mary's Cathedral at 10:00 AM.. 

John was born on March 28, 1948, in McGregor, Texas, to Pedro and Dominga Reyna Aguirre. He attended Kress High School and spent much of his working life in farming, a career that suited his love for the outdoors and allowed him to spend his days close to the land.

John had a gentle heart and a generous spirit. He was always willing to lend a hand, help someone in need, or simply be there when he was needed. His kindness came naturally, and he found great satisfaction in doing for others.

Following his retirement, John discovered a remarkable talent for woodworking. What began as a pastime soon became a true craft, and John became quite a master at creating beautiful shelving, tables, and other pieces with his own hands. Many of his creations remain in the homes of family and friends.

His love for the outdoors never left him. John had a special way with nature and particularly enjoyed feeding the wild deer that wandered onto the property. With patience and gentleness, he gained their trust, and many times the deer would come close enough to eat directly from his hand. It was a simple pleasure that reflected so much of who John was—quiet, patient, gentle, and kind.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Dominga Aguirre; his brother, Mike Aguirre; and two sisters, Maria Schulze and Anna Aguirre.

He is survived by his brother, Greg Aguirre Sr. of Amarillo; his sisters, Rosa Ybarra and her husband, Duayn Tatro, of Lefors, and Margaret Moon and her husband, Edward Vargas, of Amarillo; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
