John R. Castillo, 84, of Amarillo passed peacefully on April 4, 2026, in his home surrounded by his cherished family.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 1 pm to 5 pm at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur. The family will receive guests beginning at 5 pm to 6 pm. Rosary will take place at 6 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 2 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1210 SE 11th Ave, with Father Taylor Elzner presiding. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery East.
John was born in Amarillo, Texas on March 23, 1942, to John and Guadalupe (Galvan) Castillo. He was a lifelong resident of Amarillo and attended Amarillo Public Schools before setting off to begin his career as a Specialty Technician in the medical field.
God truly blessed the lives of John’s family. He was a dedicated worker and an exceptional husband, father, and grandfather. John married Mary Ornelas on November 19, 1965, and together they spent over 60 wonderful years together, a true testament to their love and commitment. John had a love of watching the Dallas Cowboys, traveling and spending time outdoors camping. He cherished every moment with his family. Whether it was at cookouts, gatherings, or celebrations filled with laughter, John loved nothing more than being with his family.
John had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that no one could match. He had a special way of brightening everyone’s day, rather you understood the joke or not; and even if he was the only one laughing. John will be deeply missed, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on in his family’s hearts forever.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother and sister. Those left to cherish his memories are his cherished wife, Mary (Ornelas) Castillo, daughters, Veronica Zepeda and husband George, and Sylvia Castillo, son, John Arthur Castillo, 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. John also leaves behind his sister, Christina Castillo, and brother, Tony Castillo; as well as many extended family and friends.
