It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Mickey Annen on March 31, 2026, at the age of 71. Mickey was born on November 9, 1954, in Dimmit, Texas, to Donald Frank and Betty Jones Annen.
In 1972, after high school, Mickey joined the United States Air Force and was trained as an instrumentation mechanic. He worked on fighter jets. This led to a long career as a heavy equipment mechanic with an emphasis on electronics. He could repair almost anything and never denied a request from friends who needed help with repairing their vehicles. He met Kay Scarlett and the two were married on April 14, 1982. That was the beginning of a truly remarkable lifetime together. Mickey and Kay spent their lives supporting and caring for each other and their son, Russ, always as a family. They would have celebrated their 44th anniversary in a few days.
Mickey was a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, father, and husband. He touched many lives with his wonderful sense of humor and warmth. He was a generous friend and possessed an uncanny ability to connect with just about anyone. He possessed a brilliant mind, a disarming wit, and an empathetic heart.
He was passionate about music, especially classic rock, and loved the Grateful Dead; however, he could relate to and enjoy most any type of music. He loved driving back roads, listening to music while enjoying the nature that surrounded him. Mickey found great beauty in the Texas Panhandle landscape, which is sometimes overlooked by others. He loved the mountains and tried to visit them as often as possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Russell “Russ” Annen, and his beloved brother Craig Annen.
Although Mickey is gone, he will live in our hearts forever.
Mickey is survived by his wife, Kay, his sisters, Linda Peters, Tammy Knowles, and Candice Fuller, and his sister-in-law, Janie Annen. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, and their children.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. Mickey would’ve loved that.
