Lala Gutierrez
Lala Gutierrez, 99, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 26, 2016, in Edmond, Okla.
Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Jose Gomez as celebrant. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St.
Lala was born March 31, 1917, in Juan De Rios, N.M., to Hilario and Rebecca Lucero. She married Ofelio Gutierrez in New Mexico on Oct. 30, 1935, and they moved to Amarillo in 1960. She and Ofelio loved to dance. She was involved with Wesley Community Center. She enjoyed sewing and was the best mama in the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Ofelio Jr. and Juan Gutierrez; and two daughters, Annie Gutierrez and Elizabeth Campbell.
Survivors include five daughters, Maida Martinez and husband Victor of Tucumcari, N.M., Rebecca Salazar and husband Jake of Belen, N.M., Mary Apodaca of Amarillo, Gloria Heyse and husband Clayton of Big Sandy and Lupe Romig and husband Mark of Edmond; two sons, Lucresio Gutierrez wife Wanda and Jimmy Gutierrez, all of Amarillo; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other extended family members.
