Larry Don Elmore

May 8, 1953 — December 8, 2025

Amarillo

Larry Don Elmore, 72, of Amarillo, passed away on December 8, 2025.

The family will host a celebration of Larry’s life on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm at 5118 Chisolm Trail in Amarillo. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Angel Funeral Home.

Larry was born in Plainview, Texas to Reverend Fernando “F.W.” and Eudora E. (Stacy) Elmore on May 8, 1953. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1971. In August of 1999 he married his beloved wife Connie Plumlee in Amarillo, Texas. The two knew each other almost their entire lives and attended school together, even graduating the same year.

Larry was a sports fan all of his life. He loved them all with intense passion and played everything growing up. His all-time favorite was baseball which if you let him tell it, he was so good he could have gone pro. Larry had a knack for sharing a story, even if he did embellish some of the facts. As he grew older, his love for the Kansas City Chiefs never wavered. He and his nephew Darin watched them in the low years, and more recently in the high years as they won Super Bowls.

Larry was also the family chef. He loved to spend hours in the kitchen or around the grill trying to come up with a new recipe for everyone to try. If Larry cooked for you, you didn’t just like it, you loved it, and no one ever went hungry when he was around. Friends, employees, neighbors, and anyone who was in the area got a plate.

By trade, Larry loved cars and working on them. He owned and operated his own paint and body shop most of his life until his age and health forced him away from the garage. His love of cars led him to racing and being part of his nephew’s pit crew as they traveled the road together looking for the next track; and of course, he had to make sure everyone on the team was fed going down the road.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Iris Owen and Carol Hamner, and his brother-in-law, Robert Hamner. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Connie Elmore, daughters, Valerie Schrock, Holly Rummerfield, Natalie Greer, and Stephanie Elmore, son, Stacy Elmore, and their spouses. Larry also leaves his grandchildren, Zach, Hope, Jasmine, Josiah, Hudson, Logan, and Mason, great-grandchild, Blakely, sister, Paula West and husband Bill, brother-in-law, Rex Owen, his loyal pup, Coco; numerous nephews and a niece, as well as many extended family and life-long friends.
