Margarita (Prieto) Hernandez

Margarita (Prieto) Hernandez, 79, of Amarillo, or as she was affectionately known by her family as Mom, Grandma, or Granny, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of October 29, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur. Rosary will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin’s de Porres Catholic Church, 1507 N. Adams, on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Rex Nicholl presiding. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery East’s Garden of Devotion.

Margarita’s journey began on January 2, 1944, in Eden, Texas, to Juan and Simona (De La Cruz) Prieto. 17 years later, she married Miguel Hernandez and they began their journey as husband and wife raising nine beautiful children.

Margarita loved life and laughter, but loved her children and family even more. Her goal was to give her kids the best she could, even when she did not have the resources. She would do her absolute best to make a bad situation good. The strength and wisdom she possessed was something she instilled into her children to prepare them for life’s adventure.

Margarita is survived by her children Cindy, Sandra, Luz, Miguel Jr, Brenda, Del, Cynthia, James and Esmeralda; many grand and great-grandchildren, and extended family and dear friends.
