Marilyn McMillen, age 77 of Amarillo entered the gates of Heaven on May 23, 2026 in Amarillo surrounded by her family.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Marilyn's life will be on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM at New Hope Fellowship, 8605 River Road.
Marilyn was born on August 5, 1948, in Big Spring to her parents, Edward Eugene Burchell and Alta Muriel Burchell. She was raised on a cotton farm alongside her brother, Don, who preceded her in death. Her early years in Big Spring shaped the hardworking, loving woman so many came to know and cherish. She graduated from high school there before beginning the next chapter of her life.
On August 6, 1976, Marilyn married the love of her life, Carlton McMillen, Sr. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and devotion. Their family includes Jack Owens and wife Victoria; Andrea Ganders and her husband Monty; and Carlton McMillen, Jr. and his wife Anabel.
Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family, especially her beloved grandchildren: Jacob Owens, Kaley Owens, C.D. Clark, Ariane McMillen, Abigail McMillen, and her precious great-granddaughter, Emma Jane. Time spent with them brought immeasurable happiness to her heart.
In 1980, Marilyn and Carl made their home in Amarillo, settling in the River Road community where they raised their children, all of whom attended River Road Schools. Two years ago, they became members of New Hope Fellowship, where Marilyn found friendship, fellowship, and a church family she treasured deeply.
Marilyn found beauty in life’s simple pleasures. Gardenias were her favorite flower, and she was rarely without the familiar scent of Jungle Gardenia perfume. Music also held a special place in her heart, especially the songs “Special Delivery” and “Something Beautiful,” melodies that reflected the tenderness and warmth she carried throughout her life.
Marilyn will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love for her family, and the quiet beauty she brought into the lives of those around her.
