Renda Phelps, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the age of 75 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 27, 1950, to Lloyd Emmett and Beulah Ann Boney Woodruff.
Renda grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and community. She attended Caprock High School, where fate brought her together with the love of her life, Gary Phelps. She met Gary while he was working at Burger Chef in high school—each the only person the other ever dated. Their love story remained one of lifelong devotion.
She lived a life marked by hard work and determination. In her younger years, she worked as a beautician before later building a career as an insurance agent. No matter the job, she poured herself into her work with her characteristic assertiveness, dedication, and occasional stubborn streak—traits that made her both effective and unforgettable.
Her home was a reflection of her care and pride: always meticulously tidy, warm, and inviting. She was an exceptional cook and baker who took great joy in preparing meals for her loved ones. Outside, her passion for gardening was evident in the beautiful yard and vibrant flowers she lovingly tended. She welcomed everyone into her family with unconditional love and without judgment.
Of all her roles, “Mamaw” was among her most cherished. She spoiled her grandchildren endlessly and remained deeply involved in their lives, offering guidance, affection, and unwavering support.
Renda’s love had no boundaries. She gave freely, helped without hesitation, and touched countless lives with her kindness and open heart. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, and with everyone blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Kenneth and Paul; sister Janice; her son, Darrell Phelps; two grandchildren, Chad and Stephanie; and by one great-granddaughter, Katie.
Renda is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Gary; her son, Brent Phelps; her daughter, Hope Castillo and her husband Birdie; her sister, Barbara Myers; her brother, Jerry Woodruff; four grandchildren, Akila and her husband Trevor, Chase and his wife Michelle, Samantha, and Kristen; 7 great grandchildren, Keagan, Braxton, Aubrey, Brekkon, Taylen, Ryder and Carson; and her devoted canine and feline companions, Ellie, Jasper and Tinker.
