Richard D. Smith

Richard D. Smith, age 66, of Amarillo, left this world on June 6, 2024, in Amarillo.

The family will receive guests on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 South Arthur. The funeral service will be at Angel Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Rev Greg Corona of Hillside Christian Church will officiate. Volleys for Veterans will provide military honors.

Richard was born on December 9, 1957, in Salem, Oregon, to his parents, James Derril and Nelda Fae McCann Smith.

He worked as an insurance adjuster for 20 years before retiring. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his family. Walking his dogs in the park, traveling, and exploring new places were some of his favorite activities. Richard was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. Known for living life on his own terms, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, and his wife, Starr Smith.

Richard is survived by one daughter, Tara Walls and her husband Nate; his two sons, Josh Kauffman and his wife Janie and James Smith; a sister, Tonja Smith; a brother, Jay McCurry; his “mom” who was always there for him, Linda Banks; and his grandchildren, Evan, Anthony, Alex, David, River and Gauge.
