Amarillo

Roy Arthur Menge, Jr. went to be with his precious Lord, family, and friends on July 31, 2023.  He was born to Roy and Gertrude Menge on November 15, 1935, in Teague (Freestone County), Texas.  He spent many years in the Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth, Texas.

Roy attended Tarlton State University on an athletic scholarship where he played both football and baseball. He was inducted to the Tarlton Hall of Fame.  He later played baseball for the University of Texas where he was honored as an All-American and All Southwest Conference.  During that time, he was even pictured and recognized in the May 1960 edition of Sports Illustrated.  After college he went on to play a season in the minor league for the Washington Senators.   Roy spent most of his life as a commercial realtor for William C Jennings of Ft. Worth.  He married Barbara Ann Sullivan in 1958 and two daughters were born to this union, Kimberly Kay and Michelle Rene.  He also had another daughter Sarah Elizabeth of Springtown, Texas.  In 1998, Roy married Pattie Keltner and became a father figure for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Roy was voted “Most Handsome” and “Most Athletic” at Arlington Heights High School in Ft. Worth, Texas.  Both attributes he carried throughout his life.  His sky-blue eyes were beautiful and admired by all.  He was a diehard Texas Longhorn fan and loved to tease anyone who wasn’t. He was an avid sportsman, playing competitive club tennis and golf-shooting his age multiple times.  He spent many hours on the patio reflecting on life and appreciating God’s creations.  He was carefree, simple, charismatic, kind-hearted, witty, and had a great sense of humor.  He loved food, ALL food but he especially loved ice cream. His greatest joys and pride came from playing golf and watching his daughters and their families grow and succeed in life.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Arthur Menge, Sr and Gertrude Isabelle (Jones) Menge; wife Pattie Keltner Menge; sisters Glenda Faye (Menge) Keith and husband Charles Neal Keith, Merle Lee (Menge) Jensen and husband Johnny Jenson, brothers William Douglas Menge and Harry Loyd Menge; nephew Richard Wayne Jensen; and grandson Dakota Joseph Hurley.
