Tanner Robert Smith, 34, of Amarillo, passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
A memorial gathering will be on December 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Paramount Baptist Church Building B.
Tanner was born on December 16, 1990, in Bakersfield, California, to his parents, Michael and Darlene Halterman Smith. He graduated from High School in Oklahoma and went on to attend Spartan College of Aeronautics.
He married Veranda Leonard on October 13, 2024.
Tanner was a hardworking man whose zest for life was evident in everything he did. He loved to fish—starting with some corn, bluegill, and catfish. Some of his favorite places to cast a line were at Lake Meredith and Lake Texoma—and he never missed a chance to be outdoors. Tanner loved to dance, play basketball, and cheer on his idol, Michael Jordan. He also enjoyed riding horses, spending time at the rodeo in his childhood which led to an interesting poker game story. Ever hospitable, Tanner welcomed everyone into his home; he never met a stranger and didn’t have a shy bone in his body. He had a huge heart, always thinking of others, and he gave his very best in all he did. Tanner delighted in his children and was a devoted, hands-on father. He was also proudly known as the “cool uncle,” a title he wore with joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Smith, and his grandparents.
Those left to fill his dancing shoes include his loving wife, Veranda Leonard; son Tucker Smith; daughter Harper Smith; the mother of his children, Jenny Smith; his mother, Darlene Smith; two brothers, Mike Q. Smith and Jeremy Smith, as well as many wonderful nephews, nieces, and extended family.
