Virginia Malacara Gomez

Virginia Malacara Gomez, age 80, of Amarillo, entered into Heaven on March 15, 2024.

Public viewing will be on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 12 PM until 7 PM at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur.

The funeral will be at Angel Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM.  Rev. Chris Condit of Hillside Christian will officiate. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery.

Virginia was born May 24, 1943, in Amarillo to her parents, Delores Malacara Sr. and Carmen Landeros.

She grew up in Amarillo and worked in the janitorial business in addition to raising her family.

She married Juan Gomez in 1976, and they remained together until 1985. In 1985, she and Rene Ortiz joined their lives together and have spent the last thirty-nine years together.

Virginia was a powerful and independent woman.  Although she could be stubborn at times, she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted things.

She loved to garden, cook, and entertain.  Virginia was very hospitable and made everyone feel welcome and at home, raising several “extra” children as her own.  She loved her parakeets and her sweet puppies, Stella and Macy.  Virginia was very proud of her family and adored her grandchildren; she was described as the perfect grandmother and angel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her siblings, Mary, Paul, David, Delores Jr, Daniel, Luz, Elias, and Francisco, and by a daughter, Ofelia Gomez.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Rene Ortiz; her sons, Johnny Gomez, Frankie Malacara, and Fabian Apodaca; her stepdaughter Sylvia Gomez; her sister Lupe Serna and her brother David Malacara; her grandchildren Anessia Gomez, Christian Gomez,  and Sonny Gomez; and her great-grandchildren Sonny Gomez Jr., Aaliyah Gomez, Giovanni Malacara, Armana Malacara, Julian Malacara, Annalisa Malacara, Janessa Cordova, and JoJo Harvey.
