Epifanio Vanegas

February 4, 1934 — October 8, 2021

Epifanio Vanegas (Don Epi), 87 of Cdt. Juarez Mexico, passed away October 8, 2021.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021 at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 in Bovina Cemetery. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home.

Epifanio was born February 4, 1934, in Lampazos De Naranjo Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Eustacio Vanegas and Rosa Flores. Epifanio emigrated to the U.S. in January 1958 and spent his young years as a migrant worker, working throughout the U.S. He later settled in Bovina TX where he raised his family and began working for La Missouri as he would say,  known today as Cargill. He retired from Cargill after working 20 + years. He moved to Mexico in 2004 where he spent the rest of his years.

Epifanio had many interests such as gardening; he would have the biggest garden with every type of vegetables, strawberries, and grapes. He was famous around Bovina for his chicharrones, carnitas, tamales and especially his homemade tortillas. He would fill a big oval table full of tortillas for the week. He loved looking for treasures with his granddaughter Bianca in “el dompe”. He enjoyed taking his kids and wife to the lake fishing. Everybody enjoyed listening to his stories because he had a remarkable memory and remembered his dates of every event. He was constantly teased for his driving by his grandchildren. He loved to listen to old Mexican music, watch El Chavo del Ocho, Sabado Gigante while eating fritos and peanuts.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Lucia Vangeas, whom he loved from the moment he laid his eyes on her. His son Pedro Vanegas, parents Eustacio & Rosa Vanegas, sister Concha Vanegas, brother Esteban, son-in-law Tomas Fuentes, son-in-law Heriberto Trujillo, and grandson Junior Fuentes.

He is survived by his wife Eneyda Margarita, of the home, his brother Gabriel Banegas of Texas, his children Mary Trujillo of Bakersfield California, Nora Fuentes of San Antonio Texas, Estela and John Ortiz of Friona Texas, Juanita Vanegas of Amarillo Texas, Derrick and Ericka Vanegas of Amarillo Texas; 27 grandchildren who loved him immensely and 14 great grandchildren.
